Of the Common fillers used in Plastics, Rubber, FRP, SMC, DMC moulding and other polymers only Alumina Trihydrate has flame retarding and smoke suppressing properties as  well as being an  economical resin extender.  Alumina Chemical & Castables is the leading developer & Processor of ATH.

ATH is used in polyester resins.  However with increased attention being given to smoke & toxic fume emissions, ATH has found large volume application in  vinyl as a low  smoke, non toxic replacement for antimony and in polyurethane, latex, neoprene foam system,  Rubber, wire & Cable insulation, vinyl walls & flooring coverings and epoxies.  Alumina Trihydrate acts as a flame retardant and smoke suppressor because of its thermodynamic properties.  Its endothermic dehydration cools the plastic & Rubber parts and dilute with water vapour those combustible gases that do escape.  The latter is probably the main phenomenon associated with smoke suppression other excellent performance include electrical and track resistance.

Alumina Trihydrate widely use in Paper  Industries as a whitening agent in place of titanium dioxide.

ATH is also use in  Paints Industries.  ATH can replace upto 25% of the Titanium dioxide pigment & therefore is an economical extender reducing production cost.


Alumina Trihydrate CHW grade  & CHD grade  :-
These are unground coarse particle having approx.  150 micron size.  Former CHW grade contain moisture from 3 - 8% and later  grade CHD is dry moisture free, free flowing material.  These grades are use in ferric non  ferric alum manufacturing and glass manufacturing.

Alumina Trihydrate ATH - 325 Grade :-
This is  ground grade passes 325 mesh.  Average particle size is 10 - 15 microns.

This grade use specially in Paper Industries as a whiting agent in place of titanium dioxide.  In thermoplastics, thermosets SMC / DMC moulding, FRP, PVC, use as a filler material, flame retardant and / or smoke suppressor.

In rubber industries ATH disperses  well prior to vulcanization and curing.  Functions include improving surface texture and abrasion resistance electrical arcing and tracking resistance,
improved stiffness, flame retardant and / or smoke suppressor.

Alumina Trihydrate ATH - 800 grade:-

This is finely ground grades consisting entirely of superfine pass through 800 mesh. Average particle size 1.5 - 5 microns.

This grade use specially in XLPE,PVC Cable & wire coatings, polymer industries, & Paints Industries

Calcined Alumina is a commercial Alumina or Aluminum Oxide.  It is white powder.  One of the outstanding characteristics of Calcined  Alumina is  its  hardness which is 9 on mohs scale.  There is board industrial field of applications for this type of alumina and number of distinctive   grade are produced to meet various needs.

Identification of grades :-

1) Calcined Aluminum S-100 grades : White granular free flowing powder passes through 150 m.

2) Calcined Aluminum S-300 grade :  White superfine powder passes though 45 micron.

3) Calcined Alumina SCM grade : It is  finally ground grades consisting entirely of superfine passes 
     through 45 micron.

4) Calcined Alumina S-300 PT : It is finely ground grade consisting entirely of superfine  with surface 

Uses  :-

Use as a bedding material in the heat treatment of special alloy steels, It is use as a fluxing medium in the meeting of special steels as a component of low expansion glass. It is  use as a constituent of special china dazes & it is use as a raw material for the manufacture of dental porcelains.   It is use  for  refractory application such as electrical insulators.  It is use as a abrasive  resistant.  It is use  glazing ceramic tiles.

: It is used as a water treatment chemical for removing phosphates & fluorides  
   from municipal &  industrial waters.
: In paper industry Sodium Aluminates increases the opacity retention of fibers 
  & filling material & paper strength.   Also it stabilize the  PH value of the water 
  circulations & increases the dispersion stability of filler.  It is also use in
  Sulphite recovery operation in paper making.
: It is use As a pigment in paint.  Adding Sodium Aluminate to titanium dioxide
  pigment helps prevent helps prevent chalking in outdoor paints.
:  In the Process of acrylic & Polyester synthetic fibres Sodium Aluminate improves
   drying, anti piling & anti static properties.




Activated Alumina use exclusively in different industries for water absorbent.  It is available in granules 2 - 6   mm in size & spheres / Balls 2 - 5  mm in size.

General Information :-

HAC-8R is an alumina rich calcium aluminate cement ( CAC ) with 80% Al203 and very low impurities content.  This cement has been indigenously manufactured as an equivalent to imported calcium refractory cements, namely SECAR - 80 and CA-25 grades.

HAC-8R cement imparts the following properties to high performance castable refractories :

Excellent mechanical performance in all temperature range High refractoriness and lot properties Improved volume stability.

Very low silica and iron oxide contents in HAC - 8R cement makes it particularly suitable for certain refractory applications under hydrogen or carbon monoxide atmosphere.

As a result of controlled processing and the calcium aluminate mineralogy, HAC-8R cement is designed to have most consistent setting, rheology and strength characteristics.  Due to
these unique rheology and consistency, HPC - 8R can be used to manufacture refractory castables or monolithics in LCC, ULCC and conventional systems combining with wide range or refractory aggregates and other special raw materials
